Purple Line

In 1993 we lost one of the all-time great multi-talented stars ever to grace our popular culture, Marlene Dietrich; Sultry Queen of Stage, Screen and Shellac. In honor of her memory, W.A.M.S. is pleased to feature her in this 78 Album Art .gif image. This 3-disk Decca set, (DEC 115) contains six of her most famous tunes, several of which were made popular in her several Universal films including "Seven Sinners," "Destry Rides Again" and "The Blue Angel."

On this album, she was assisted by Victor Young and His Orchestra, I'm assuming that this was a Universal studio band, but I'm not really sure. Anyway, the entire album is great! The last cut "Boys in the Backroom" from the Jimmy Stewart western, "Destry Rides Again" was the song that was parodied by Madelin Kahn in the Mel Brooks film "Blazing Saddles."
